Eyelid Surgery Before and After PhotosThe eyes are essential characteristics of the face. When the eyes look tired, worn, and aged, it can disrupt the entire facial harmony. Sagging skin and displaced fat in the upper and lower eyelids can cause an unflattering appearance, and excess tissue in the upper eyelids can significantly obstruct a person’s vision. Many have tried heavy creams and “magical” anti-aging treatments but see little improvement in the appearance of the eyes.

When at-home remedies have failed to produce results, many people turn to eyelid surgery to rejuvenate their eyes and improve their vision. Eyelid surgery is an ideal procedure that can target excess skin and fat accumulations in the upper and lower eyelids.

The Eyelid Surgery Procedure

Patients who have weakened eyelid tissues and poor fat distribution may undergo upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or both. Dr. Baker will evaluate your facial anatomy and goals to help you decide on the best approach.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

An incision is made within the natural fold of the upper eyelids to correct hooding. The incision will be hidden, making scarring unnoticeable. Through the incisions, excess upper eyelid skin is trimmed and fat deposits may be removed. The remaining tissues are repositioned into a more youthful position.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

If excess skin and fat needs to be removed from the lower eyelids (which is generally the cause of a puffy lower eyelid appearance), a transcutaneous approach is used, which involves an incision just below the lower lash line to remove fat and lift the tissues. If excess fat only is present, a transconjunctival approach can be used, which involves an incision across the inside of the lower eyelid. Incisions are made inconspicuously, making them unnoticeable once healing has concluded and the patient has fully recovered.

Eyelid surgery is an ideal procedure for smoothing the tissues around the eyes to create a refreshed, more youthful appearance. It is a subtle procedure that can make a huge difference in the entire facial harmony. When combined with other procedures such as a face and neck lift, a lateral brow lift, or BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, patients can achieve an all-over facial rejuvenation. Dr. Baker can examine your face and aging indicators to help you decide on the correct treatment plan.
