A feminine-looking chest can often be caused by two conditions: pseudogynecomastia or gynecomastia. These conditions, along with genetics, medical issues, or certain lifestyle choices, usually result in glandular tissue growth or fat accumulation in a man’s chest. Male breast reduction surgery can enhance the definition of your chest creating a more toned and visually appealing chest appearance.

Knowing the Difference

Pseudogynecomastia

Pseudogynecomastia is described as excess breast fat on a man’s chest. The excess of fatty tissue is usually found accumulating around the nipple-areola complex, thus creating a soft and puffy-looking chest. This condition is seen most commonly in overweight patients or those who have abused the use of alcohol and marijuana.

Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is characterized by excess glandular breast tissue in men that can often occur due to an imbalance of hormones. Adolescent boys struggling with gynecomastia can rest assured, as it is likely to resolve itself over time. Older men, however, may struggle due to the possibility of gynecomastia remaining permanent.

Treatments

Pull-Through Technique

Patients who struggle with mild to moderate glandular tissue can benefit from undergoing the pull-through technique. By combining liposuction, this treatment will remove excess glandular tissue from the treated area through a small incision that is made around the lower edge of the areola. This method may result in minimal scarring and offer long-lasting results.

Liposuction

Liposuction is used to treat pseudogynecomastia by eliminating fatty tissue in patients who struggle with feminine-looking breasts. This procedure can help improve and restore the chest to achieve a more masculine and attractive appearance. After small incisions are placed within the natural creases of the breasts, a gentle vacuum will then suction and remove the excess fat from the area. Once the fat is removed, Dr. Baker will be able to sculpt the chest to your desired results.

Excision

Men who suffer from severe chest deformities due to having excess fat, skin, or glandular tissue may need to undergo an excision procedure. Similar to the pull-through technique, an excision procedure will also combine liposuction to treat and contour the deformed chest for a more natural-looking appearance. Excess skin and glandular tissue will be completely removed during the process while the nipples are repositioned.
