A medial thigh lift is a surgical procedure that tightens and lifts the inner thigh to improve the contour of the upper leg. This procedure helps those with inner thigh sagginess and loose skin caused by aging or significant weight fluctuations.
The best candidates for a thigh lift are in overall good health and have realistic expectations of the procedure. Candidates will also have unwanted loose, sagging skin along their inner thighs as a result of aging, significant weight gain and weight loss, or bariatric surgery.
Before the Procedure
Dr. Baker meets with his patients three times before performing thigh lift surgery.
- First Meeting: During your initial consultation, Dr. Baker will analyze your anatomy and your goals. It is during this meeting that Dr. Baker will create a realistic treatment plan and discuss with you all the advantages and disadvantages of a thigh lift, including any potential complications.
- Second Meeting: Your second meeting with Dr. Baker will take place two weeks before your surgery at which time Dr. Baker will review your photographs and treatment plan and adapt the treatment plan if necessary. During this time, you will receive instructions to prepare for your surgery as well as all relevant forms and prescriptions. These instructions will include written details on smoking cessation, eating, drinking, and stopping certain medications, vitamins, or supplements.
- Third Meeting: The third and final meeting with Dr. Baker prior to your surgery is the day before your procedure. At this meeting, Dr. Baker will review all instructions and answer any final questions you may have. Dr. Baker will mark a detailed surgical design on your body in preparation for the procedure.
In preparation for your thigh lift surgery, you should plan to have a responsible caregiver drive you home after the procedure and be there to assist you for a few days during your recovery.
Dr. Baker performs the thigh lift procedure on an outpatient basis. The patient is given either deep sedation or sleep anesthesia by a board-certified anesthesiologist and a certified registered nurse anesthetist. Dr. Baker will make a careful elliptical excision just along the groin crease so that he can remove the loose skin and underlying fat tissue. If you have more severe skin laxity, he will also make an elliptical excision of lax skin along the inner portion of the inner thigh. Dr. Baker performs the entire three-hour procedure himself with excellent results.
After the Procedure
During the first two weeks after surgery, Dr. Baker will provide personal, in-office care for you every two to three days beginning the day after surgery. Dressings must be changed every day for two weeks to keep the incisions clean and prevent an infection from occurring. During these two weeks, it will also be necessary to keep your legs slightly elevated at night to reduce swelling. Most patients can resume normal activities within one week after surgery, but patients should avoid exercise and more strenuous activities for at least four weeks. Once the first two weeks after your surgery have passed, Dr. Baker will continue to provide regular care at weekly and monthly intervals for one year.
